Just over 990,000 people live in Stockholm Municipality. This is shown by new statistics from Statistics Sweden. The forecast is that over one million people will live in the municipality by 2025.

The statistics, which are from October 2023, show that 990,390 residents were then registered in Stockholm.

During the 2000s, the number of inhabitants in the municipality increased by almost a quarter of a million. During the first year of the pandemic, growth declined, only to increase again.

– But last year it was back to the levels we saw in the early 2000s, and this year the increase looks to be about the same. There are a lot of factors that affect population growth, but if it were to continue at the same pace next year, Stockholm Municipality will have one million inhabitants by 2025, says Guadalupe Andersson, population statistician at Statistics Sweden, in a press release.
