From 2026, EU citizens will have access to digital identity wallets (EUDI Wallet) that can securely store passports, ID cards, payment methods, and biometric profiles.

This summer, Amadeus and Lufthansa tested the wallet for online check-in and airport scenarios such as baggage drop and boarding. Later in 2025, it will also be tested for security and border control.

The wallet enables a smoother travel experience:

  • One-click online check-in
  • Biometric identification without the need for selfies or documents
  • Check-in and boarding by tapping your mobile phone
  • Future passport-free border controls
  • Payment directly via wallet

Amadeus has adapted its Travel Ready solution to support the EUDI Wallet and other digital identity wallets. The solution is based on high data security and gives travellers full control over their personal data.

”Digital identity is the missing piece of the puzzle for seamless travel,” says Rudy Daniello, EVP AirOps at Amadeus.
