The European Commission has launched a competition investigation into the airline booking companies Amadeus and Sabre and their relationships with airlines and travel agents.

The European Commission's investigation will look at whether Amadeus and Sabre's agreements with airlines and travel agents restrict them from using other ticketing services that could be cheaper for consumers in Europe, Reuters reports.

”Our investigation into Amadeus and Sabre focuses on possible restrictions of competition in the market for airline distribution services,” said EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager in a statement.
