The American airline Delta Airlines is expediting the suspension of flights to China after the United States decided on new restrictions for both Americans and foreign citizens who have recently visited China.
Delta had previously decided to stop all flights to and from China on February 6, but as the infection from the new coronavirus has spread, the company has now decided to accelerate the stop. The last Delta flights to China will depart today and on Sunday the last flights will return to the United States.
All three major US airlines have decided to suspend flights to mainland China. On Friday, the Trump administration declared a national health emergency and imposed restrictions on people who have recently visited China.
So far, 259 people have been confirmed dead after contracting the novel coronavirus, all in China. More than 12,000 people have been confirmed sick in total.
