American Airlines (AA) has informed its employees that 13,000 of them could lose their jobs. The reason is the reduced travel during the corona pandemic and the company does not expect a dramatic improvement in the first quarter of the year and expects to fly at almost half capacity then.

“The vaccine is not being distributed as quickly as any of us thought it would be and the new restrictions on international travel that require customers to show a negative Covid-19 test have dampened demand,” the top executives write, promising to try to ensure that as few as possible lose their jobs.

The company laid off 19,000 employees in October, but let them come back in December after the US government handed out $15 billion in aid to the airline industry.
