Accident at Silja Line departure

Remove

An accident has occurred in connection with a Silja Line ferry departing from Värtahamnen in Stockholm on Tuesday evening.

The passenger ferry was on its way to Turku in southern Finland.

– Yes, one might perhaps call it an accident, but I would call it more of an incident. Unfortunately, one of our boats moved a little bit and then a gangway moved a little bit, says Hans Friberg, operations manager at Tallink.

Friberg continues:

– That's the way it goes.

What has caused this?

Boats are in the water and therefore do not remain one hundred percent still. If it's windy, the boat can move a little. But no one is injured – and that's the most important thing.

Has the incident caused damage to the boat?

– I dare not comment on that. It's possible there has been some superficial damage, but nothing more than that. And the ferry has departed as normal. This will not affect our traffic.
