A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Pennsylvania after trying to smuggle explosive materials onto a flight to Orlando, AP reports.

Marc Muffley checked his bag at Lehigh Valley International Airport on Monday.

When the bag was scanned, a container was discovered tucked into the bag's inner fabric. 

The container contained a mixture of black powder and flash powder of the same type as in fireworks.

A container of butane gas and a wick were also found. 

According to the FBI, the mixture could have caught fire from friction or heat and would have posed a significant risk to passengers if the bag had been taken on board.

Muffley is being held on suspicion of attempting to take explosive material aboard an aircraft.
