Austria's blue-green government is putting an end to cheap airline tickets and setting a minimum limit of 40 euros and further restrictions. "Super cheap airline tickets undermine climate policy and wage standards," commented Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler.

The new fees and bans were revealed in connection with the presentation of the crisis package for Austrian Airlines, as part of making aviation more climate-friendly.

”"It will no longer be possible to offer tickets that are cheaper than the cost," the Minister of the Environment clarified to the television station. RTL.

In addition to the minimum price, all flights under three hours where there is a train alternative that takes a shorter time will be prohibited, and for flight distances shorter than 350 kilometers, a fee of 30 euros will be added.

”We will become a pioneering country,” said Leonore Gewessler, meaning that it was the nail in the coffin for the ”one euro ticket.”.

Austrian Airlines can count on a total support of 600 million euros, of which 450 million comes from the state and the remaining amount from Lufthansa, which is a major owner.

The airline's fleet has been grounded for three months, but plans to test its wings starting June 15 to several European destinations as well as Tel Aviv.

During July, the company plans to start tours to New York, Washington and Bangkok.
