Austria's severe restrictions to stop the spread of Covid-19 will be lifted on Sunday, but only for those who have been vaccinated, says the country's new Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
The restrictions still apply to unvaccinated people.
Nehammer, from the conservative ÖVP, describes it as ”opening with your seatbelts on” after the country’s fourth so-called lockdown. By that, he means that some restrictions such as restaurants having to close at 11pm, a reduced number of visitors to cultural events and face mask requirements on public transport, shops and public spaces will remain in place even for vaccinated people.
Around 68 percent of Austria's population is vaccinated with both vaccines.
