The US aviation authority FAA will order about 220 aircraft engines to be examined after the accident on a Southwest Airlines plane on Tuesday.

A broken rotor blade led to an explosion that shattered a window. A woman who was nearly sucked out of the plane died.

All rotor blades on CFM56-7B engines that have flown a certain number of times must be inspected within six months, according to the directive. Several airlines have already initiated inspections.
