A hotel stay should be a break from everyday life, but for many, it instead becomes a test of

When many people share spaces in hotels, like corridors, walls and the breakfast area, small
things quickly affect the experience. More than one in three Swedes (37 percent) state that children who
running or walking freely in communal areas is the most disruptive during a hotel stay.
Next is smoking on the balcony despite the prohibition (19 percent) as well as slamming doors and lack of
respect for quiet hours (18 percent).

– That children top the list of disruptive behaviour shows how sensitive the hotel environment is when many
people share the same spaces. What for some is a natural part of a holiday, for others can
perceived as disturbing, particularly in environments where peace and recovery are expected. To us,

Nearly one in six (15 percent) report being annoyed by others playing music loudly in their room.

    About the survey:
    The survey was conducted by Verian on behalf of BWH Hotels between 2 and 5 January 2026. A total of
    1,051 people in Sweden were interviewed in the Sifo panel. The question asked was a multiple-choice question: ”What disturbs
