The number of bankruptcies hit a new, dark record in June and increased by 33 percent compared to the same period last year. This is according to statistics from the credit information company Syna, which Realtid reports on.

Bankruptcies in the country have increased since August last year and are primarily affecting small and medium-sized companies in the construction sector and the restaurant industry.

Businesses in metropolitan counties are the worst affected.

In Stockholm County, the number of bankruptcies reached around 350 in June, while more than 800 jobs were lost.

In Västra Götaland, bankruptcies have increased by 56 percent since the turn of the year, in Skåne the corresponding increase is 38 percent.

”"For many companies, the summer will be a baptism of fire when revenues drop while costs for salaries, social security contributions and premises remain," says Karl Stjerna, CEO of Syna, to Realtid.
