The risks of booking package holidays yourself should be reduced.
Among other things, one should have the right to cancel the trip before it has begun.
There will also be stricter requirements for the organiser to ensure that the trip is carried out in accordance with the agreement entered into. The traveller shall be entitled to accommodation if the return journey cannot be arranged.
All of this is proposed in a draft bill to be submitted to the Council on Legislation, on which the Government is due to decide on Thursday. On that occasion, a proposal for new travel guarantees will also be put forward, which, amongst other things, will increase travellers’ chances of getting their money back if the tour operator goes bankrupt.
”The government's proposal means that travel companies” costs for arranging travel guarantees should be able to be significantly reduced compared to today. The new regulatory framework means both improvements for companies and strengthened consumer protection in the travel market," says Consumer Minister Per Bolund in a press release.
The new laws will come into effect on 1 August, provided the Council of Legislation approves them.
