It is more expensive to shop at the airport's duty-free shop than to shop online, according to a price analysis from the product comparison service Prisjakt.
”"On the way to the holiday, many people turn off the economic compass and many travelers assume that duty-free means cheap," says Isabella Ahmadi, consumer expert at Prisjakt to SVT Nyheter.
The study compared 500 products across the perfume, skincare, makeup and sunglasses categories and found that 87 percent of items were cheaper to buy online. Only 13 percent of items were priced lower in the airport duty-free shop.
The survey also shows that price differences can be large. On average, goods in the duty-free shop were 38 percent more expensive than the same item online.
But you can make a difference in the duty-free shop. In addition to a couple of serums, the survey also found some perfumes that were around a third cheaper in the airport duty-free than online.
”Online shopping can often offer a better price than duty-free. But the only sure way to know if you're making a good purchase is to compare prices before you shop,” says Ahmadi.
