Five of Sweden's largest airports will start mixing the jet fuel at the pumps with biofuel starting Wednesday.

The state-owned company Swedavia has purchased a total of 542 tons of biofuel that will be pumped out in one to two days at Arlanda, Landvetter, Bromma, Visby and Luleå airports, according to a press release.

The fuel is made from used frying oil and reduces fossil carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80 percent compared to conventional aviation fuel, according to Swedavia.

”"Flight needs to be part of the future of transport and these must be sustainable. In the short term, biofuel is the solution that can benefit the most for the climate and therefore investments in it are absolutely necessary," says Swedavia's President and CEO Jonas Abrahamsson in the press release:

”"With our forest as a raw material, we also have good opportunities for large-scale, domestic production of biofuel. There is potential here for a new Swedish industrial flagship.".
