The Boeing 737 Max, the plane that crashed, made its first flight in the United States with paying passengers on Tuesday since the plane was grounded two years ago.

The plane took off from Miami at 10:30 local time and landed at LaGuardia in New York at 1:00 p.m., slightly ahead of schedule.

Two fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia in 2019 led to a huge crisis for Boeing. During a press conference on Tuesday, American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said that they, together with both Boeing and the FAA, ensured that the plane maintains the “highest possible level of safety.”

Most recently, on Christmas Day, a Boeing 737 Max was forced to make an emergency landing due to a suspected engine failure.
