Boeing will spend about $1 billion on a pilot training program once authorities approve changes to its 737 Max aircraft, which has been grounded since March 2019, Reuters reports, citing sources.
The company expects this to happen in the US before the end of the year, while European regulators have indicated that it could come in the first quarter of 2020.
The new venture focuses on pilot training and is still under development. A source told Reuters that the investments will improve aircraft infrastructure, including their flight simulation systems.
It was also stated that the company is considering new training materials or methods for each career stage. It may also be relevant to funding training centers or recruitment, the sources said.
For Boeing, the billion will be the first amount to be invested and the cost of the project is expected to increase over time, according to the sources.
