Boeing has resumed production of the grounded 737 Max model, according to a statement. CNBC reports.

Production has been at a standstill since January. Boeing chose to pull the handbrake after hundreds of aircraft filled up warehouses in the US.

With production restarting (to be ramped up gradually), it shows optimism from Boeing about seeing the model back in the air again, the news channel writes.

The 737 Max has been grounded since spring 2019 after two fatal crashes. Since then, Boeing has been working to upgrade its faulty safety systems that caused the crashes and is now awaiting approval from the FAA.

Boeing did not want to comment to CNBC whether the FAA is close to certifying the aircraft as safe to fly again.
