The Azerbaijani airline Azal is withdrawing an order for ten Boeing Max planes worth one billion dollars, which corresponds to approximately 9.5 billion kronor.

”"Azal is refraining from purchasing ten Boeing planes for safety reasons," a spokesperson for the company announced, referring to the two fatal accidents involving Boeing Max 8 planes.

A number of countries have imposed a flight ban on the model after the crash in Ethiopia in March that cost the lives of 157 people.

On Monday, Malaysia Airlines also announced that the company is evaluating its order for 25 Max planes ”very carefully” in light of the continued global flight ban. Reuters reports that the first deliveries, scheduled for early 2022, are likely to be delayed.

”"We are in discussions and talks with Boeing," CEO Izham Ismail told Reuters.
