American Airlines has placed an order for 85 737 Max 10 aircraft from Boeing.
The order is for Boeing's largest aircraft model, the 737-10 Max, and is a model American Airlines previously did not have in its fleet. In addition to the new order for 85 aircraft, American Airlines is converting a previous order for 30 aircraft from the smaller 737-8 model to the 737-10.
An option to purchase an additional 75 737-10 aircraft has also been signed, according to a press release.
American Airlines has previously placed orders for a total of 70 Boeing aircraft, which means that the total order book for the Boeing 737 Max amounts to 150 aircraft.
It is not clear how much American Airlines is expected to pay for the ordered planes.
American Airlines shares are down just over 4 percent as of 7:30 p.m. Monday. Boeing shares are up 0.4 percent.
Boeing's 737 Max series has been plagued by accidents. Most recently, in early January, flights with Boeing's 737 Max 9 model were halted after an emergency exit door came loose at an altitude of 5,000 meters a few minutes after takeoff on an Alaska Airlines flight. In February, the company announced that the head of the 737 Max program was leaving the company.
