Boeing will inspect 737 Max aircraft for foreign debris after it was discovered in fuel tanks on several of the planes in storage, the company said in a letter to employees, CNBC reports.
The company has high hopes that employees will help eliminate the items from production.
”The success of this initiative depends on you. We need our entire team to make this a priority,” wrote Mark Jenks, head of Boeing’s commercial airplanes.
The Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, has said it is aware of the voluntary inspection aimed at strengthening manufacturing quality within Boeing.
Boeing plans to inspect all 400 737 Max aircraft it has not yet delivered since they were grounded in the spring of 2019. This is due to two fatal accidents that forced the company to change software in the safety system to avoid seeing more crashes. Boeing does not believe that the latest discovery will delay the 737 Max's planned return to service.
