The national bomb shelter is in place at Arlanda Airport after a minor fire broke out in a tunnel entrance at the airport.

”"This is because we have found some bags that we want to examine more closely," says police spokesman Daniel Wikdahl, adding that the bags were found down at the train station.

A man was arrested earlier Thursday afternoon in a tunnel on suspicion of intentionally setting fire to trash in a tunnel entrance. According to Wikdahl, the man is also suspected of having something to do with the bags.

”"It's a younger man, but the exact age is a bit difficult because we don't know if he has provided correct information about who he is."”

The police have launched an investigation into arson, or aggravated arson.

The fire broke out on Thursday afternoon and was extinguished by Arlanda's own fire personnel.

Arlanda Central Station has been evacuated and train traffic has been stopped in both north and southbound directions. Swedavia, which operates the airport, states that only train traffic is affected by the incident.

”"It does not affect the airport, or air traffic, in general," says Ellen Laurin, press officer at Swedavia.
