There is a huge appetite for restaurant visits in Denmark. On Friday, nearly 80,000 reservations were made on the website Dinnerbooking, after easing restrictions were announced for the coming week.

”"It's absolutely crazy how many bookings we've received. We didn't see such a high number coming," says Laura Madsen, communications manager at Dinnerbooking, which is used by around 800 restaurants in Denmark.

Friday's more than 77,000 bookings can be compared to the 6,000–10,000 bookings made daily in recent weeks, or to the 30,000 bookings made on the same day two years ago, before the pandemic.

”We can see that there is a lot of interest in the slightly more expensive restaurants, and this indicates that guests are willing to pay a little extra for a good meal,” says Madsen.

The easing of restrictions will take effect from Wednesday next week. Restaurants will then be allowed to serve their last meal at 10 p.m., but guests will be allowed to stay and eat and drink until 11 p.m. Anyone who wants to visit a restaurant must make a reservation in advance, and if you are sitting indoors you must be able to show a so-called corona passport.
