Travelers at Heathrow Airport near London, UK, can often expect to queue for up to two hours at passport control.
This has prompted Alex Cruz, head of the airline British Airways, to demand action from the government.
In an open letter, he points out that the queues at Heathrow, Europe's busiest airport, are worse than at any other major airport in the world.
”What kind of signals does this send as we try to build new bridges to countries outside the EU?” Cruz writes, referring to Britain leaving the EU in March next year.
The BA boss is reacting to reports that the UK is planning to build special passport controls for British citizens at airports after Brexit.
Currently, travelers from within the European Economic Area (EEA) typically have to wait an hour. Travelers from outside typically have to wait almost two hours. Cruz is calling on Home Secretary Sajid Javid to take action.
