British Airways' owner, International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG), is considering raising capital from shareholders in the coming weeks.
This is reported by the Daily Mail, citing sources.
The capital that British Airways is considering raising will help ease the airline's debt, writes the Daily Mail.
During the initial stages of the pandemic, virtually all airlines around the world took emergency measures to restructure debt and save the industry. IAG raised €2.8 billion in July 2020.
However, the crisis cannot be categorized as resolved. Last week, reports abounded that Wizz Air had made a bid for British Easyjet, which shortly later announced a plan to raise $2 billion.
Easyjet shares fell steeply on the London Stock Exchange as speculation heated up, and IAG's share price was also seen to plunge by a few percent on Monday's data, after being down around 4 percent on Friday.
IAG has declined to comment on the rumors.
