Crisis-stricken airline British Airways intends to sell at least 10 works from its extensive art collection to strengthen its coffers, a source told the BBC. Reuters.

The British Airways art collection includes works by Damien Hirst, Peter Doig and Bridget Riley, and is usually displayed in airport lounges.

The proposal to sell them to raise money came, according to Reuters, from an employee at the company.

At least one of the works to be sold has been valued at over 1 million pounds, equivalent to 11.7 million kronor.

British Airways has previously stated that its owner, IAG, is bleeding 178 million pounds, equivalent to just over two billion kronor, this week. 

The airline plans to lay off 12,000 employees.
