A large black cloud of smoke is currently seen over central Stockholm.
According to the Swedish Transport Administration, a bus is on fire at Tegelbacken in the City. The police do not suspect foul play.
”"A bus has exploded," says Tony Frank, command operator at the Greater Stockholm Fire Department to Aftonbladet.
According to police, there were no passengers on the bus when it caught fire.
The explosion occurred at the Klara Tunnel in the middle of Stockholm city.
A witness tells Aftonbladet that it said "not in service" on the bus.
”"A blue bus drove straight into the barrier and then the bus exploded," the witness tells the newspaper.
Police sources state that one of the theories is that the bus hit the pontoons that hang down as a height warning at the mouth of the tunnel.
”"It's a gas bus that has started to burn," says Carina Skagerlind, police spokesperson, to Aftonbladet.
The Stockholm police consider the incident "a pure rescue operation" and do not suspect any crime, according to SVT.
According to SL's press contact to Expressen, the bus likely had at least one driver.
”"It is supposed to be a bus operated by Keolis. I cannot confirm whether it has been in traffic or not," says Henrik Palmér, press contact at SL, to Expressen.
The Swedish Transport Administration announces on its website that road 73 is closed at Gullmarsplan and the access road from Gullmarsplan towards Johanneshovsbron as a result of the incident.
