Swedish campsites continue to grow from last year's record levels. During June and July, the number of guest nights increased by 3.9 percent compared to 2025. So far this year, foreign guests have accounted for the strongest growth.

During the period January–July, the number of guest nights at Swedish campsites increased by 3.5 percent compared to the corresponding period last year, according to preliminary figures from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.

Swedish guest nights increased by 3 percent, while foreign guest nights increased by 4.9 percent.

The development is taking place from high levels. In 2025, a record 17.3 million guest nights were registered at Swedish campsites.

At the same time, camping developed roughly in line with the Swedish commercial accommodation market as a whole, where the number of guest nights increased by 3.3 percent during the first seven months of the year.

“Campsites are an important driver for Swedish summer tourism and create vibrant destinations throughout the country. There are destinations where the industry accounts for more than 75 percent of guest nights,” says Martin Juhos, CEO of Svensk Camping.

The Netherlands increases by 8 percent

Sweden's three largest foreign camping markets – Norway, Germany and the Netherlands – all increased during January–July.

Norway was by far the largest with just over 1.51 million guest nights, an increase of 3.9 percent. Germany increased by 5.3 percent to just over 874,000 guest nights.

The Netherlands accounted for the largest percentage increase among the three markets. The number of Dutch guest nights rose by 8.2 percent to just over 266,000.

According to Svensk Camping, camping thus maintains its position as the largest form of accommodation for European summer tourists visiting Sweden.
