Train and air traffic are also affected by the massive amounts of snow.

Since 9 a.m., train traffic between Södertälje and Eskilstuna has been halted, according to the Swedish Transport Administration. Several flights have also been canceled, says Lovisa Ernestam at Swedavia.

”"We have delays of an hour or more and a number of flights cancelled due to the weather. With so much snow, we need to clear the runways and de-icing them regularly."”

Both arriving and departing flights are affected. The problems mainly concern Arlanda, but there are also delays elsewhere in the country.

At present, Swedavia cannot say how many travelers are expected to be affected.
