The Italian Mediterranean island of Capri is introducing new measures to curb mass tourism starting this summer.

The island's city council has decided that tourist groups of more than 40 people will no longer be allowed to land on the island to reduce congestion, reports the Ansa news agency.

At the same time, loudspeakers are prohibited on guided tours. Tour guides leading groups of more than 20 people must instead use wireless headsets to communicate with participants.

Capri, which has around 13,000 inhabitants, receives up to 50,000 day visitors per day during the summer.
