The certification process for Boeing's troubled 737 Max model, which was taken out of service after two accidents in a short period of time, will be delayed into 2020. This is the announcement from a senior executive at the US Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday.
Boeing and the FAA do not necessarily have the same view on the certification work surrounding the 737 Max, the agency's director, Stephen Dickson, clarified in a statement to CNBC.
A number of milestones must be reached before the Max can be returned to service and there is currently no specific timeline for when the plane can be made ready for takeoff, Stephen Dickson continued.
Norwegian and Ryanair are both major customers of the Boeing model. Ryanair's withdrawal from Skavsta Airport as a base outside Nyköping, a decision announced last week, was blamed on delayed deliveries of the model.
