To the delight of the British and tourists' sense of normalization, it can be reported that the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace is back in use.
An involuntary hiatus since March last year is of course due to the pandemic.
In Monday's "Changing the Guard" ceremony, the Queen's Guards handed over responsibility for protecting Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace to the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, whose band ripped off a version of Spandau Ballet's "Gold" as a tribute to Britain's gold medalists at the Tokyo Olympics.
Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the British monarch in London. But Queen Elizabeth II did not witness Monday's changing of the guard. As is tradition, she is enjoying her summer vacation at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
