China's opening worries Japan - requires tests

Remove

When China opens to travel in early January, Japan will require COVID tests for all travelers from China.

Border controls will be expanded starting Friday due to fears of the rapid spread of the infection currently underway in China.

Travelers with suspected COVID-19 symptoms are already required to be tested, but for travelers from China, testing will be mandatory for everyone. Those who test positive will be isolated for seven days.

According to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, the lack of information from China has made it difficult to assess the situation.

”"There is growing concern in Japan. We have decided to take temporary steps to deal with the situation," Kishida said in a statement.

He also opened up about stopping the planned increase in the number of flights to China from Japan.
