Just in time for the busiest travel period of the year, strong winds have caused over a hundred flights to be cancelled at London's Heathrow International Airport, writes Daily Newspaper.

– Due to strong winds and airspace restrictions, a small number of flights have been cancelled today. We know how important it is to travel at this time of year and have extra staff to ensure people get off, says a spokesperson for Heathrow according to Dagbladet.

There are reports of wind gusts of up to 33 meters per second in the London area and a yellow warning for storms has been issued for large parts of the United Kingdom.

"We urge people to check with their airline if their flight is on time," the spokesperson says.
