Comfort Hotel Solna has been nominated for the prestigious Social Impact Leader award at this year's Unfold Awards, an award that highlights hotel operations that demonstrate exceptional leadership in sustainability and social responsibility.
The Unfold Awards is an industry award that recognizes groundbreaking initiatives and innovations within the hotel and experience industry, with a particular focus on sustainability, social impact and the future of guest experiences.
The rationale behind the nomination focuses on the hotel's wholehearted work to integrate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles throughout its operations – from groundbreaking climate initiatives to inclusive workplaces and community engagement.
Since opening in 2021, Comfort Hotel Solna has had a clear goal: to become the most sustainable hotel in the Nordic region. As the first Zero Energy hotel in the Nordic region, the hotel annually produces more energy than it consumes – thanks to the world's most solar-intensive hotel building.

In addition to the nomination at the Unfold Awards, Comfort Hotel Solna has also been nominated for Solna City CSR Award and to ”"Diversity Company of the Year" at the Inclusion Awards, which further underlines the hotel's strong commitment to social sustainability and inclusion.
Sustainability initiatives in focus
Energy optimization
Through innovative solutions such as zoned room temperatures, energy-saving routines and smart allocation of guest rooms depending on energy needs, the hotel has managed to significantly reduce its energy use.
Food waste
The hotel is actively working to reduce food waste by reusing leftovers in new dishes and offering leftover food via Too Good To Go – which has so far saved over 700 lunch boxes and reduced CO₂ emissions by nearly 2 tons.
Foodloopz and circular agriculture
Through a unique partnership with the organization Foodloopz, the hotel grows its own vegetables and fruits on a nearby plot. Food waste is composted and used as fertilizer, and the hotel's own beehive contributes both local honey and biodiversity.
Social inclusion and young people in work
Comfort Hotel Solna collaborates with Solna City and the organization Jobbentre to offer adapted jobs to people who are further away from the labor market. During the summer of 2024, the hotel also participated in Solna City's initiative for youth employment, where as many as 20 summer workers got a valuable start in working life.
