The American airlines American Airlines and United Airlines are completing the announced layoffs of a total of 32,000 employees, the companies announced.

On Tuesday evening, the US Treasury Department announced that an agreement for emergency loans to the airline industry totaling $25 billion had been reached with seven US airlines, including American Airlines and United Airlines.

But that crisis loan will not affect the previously announced staff cuts, airline sources say.

American Airlines has announced that 19,000 employees will be laid off, while United Airlines is laying off 13,000 employees.
