602,000 people flew with SAS in October, which is a decrease of 78.7 percent compared to the same month last year. RPK, passenger kilometers, decreased by 86.3 percent.

Capacity during the period was down 73.3 percent. The figures are roughly in line with September's figures.

”"Demand for domestic traffic continues to be stronger than for European and intercontinental destinations, which is reflected in the network and departures we offer. Unfortunately, the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in October has led to increased restrictions throughout Europe and this naturally affects the willingness to travel negatively. Although we expect unchanged demand in the coming months, our continued assessment is that the recovery phase for the airline industry will continue until 2022 and that demand will return to pre-pandemic levels in the following years," says Rickard Gustafson, CEO of SAS.

Despite the significant drop, the decrease in SAS's traffic figures has been clearly milder than for both Finnair and Norwegian, which have reported traffic figures in recent days.

For Finnair, passenger traffic fell by 92 percent in October 2020 compared to October 2019. Norwegian's was down by 96 percent.
