In Åland, unemployment has increased from just under four percent to just over nine.

Åland's Minister of Economic Affairs Fredrik Karlström is concerned about the development, especially because Åland has recently transitioned to a new economic system that makes the island region more vulnerable to economic losses.

One of the most important employers, Viking Line, recently decided to extend the layoffs until the end of March next year, but already in May, CEO Jan Hanses hopes that demand for cruises will increase.
