Several seasonal workers have been quarantined in Sälen after a suspected coronavirus outbreak. There are reports of mountain tourists crowding into gas stations and eateries.

Around thirty employees at Skistar in Sälen have been isolated after staff tested positive for Covid-19, reports P4 Dalarna. Some of the employees have symptoms of illness, according to the radio.

The people live in groups and even those who live together and their closest associates have been quarantined.

Jonas Bauer, destination manager at Skistar in Sälen, tells Dalarnas Tidningar that it concerns people who work in shops and with ski rentals.

”"We have had to close four ski shops because of this."”

The ski slopes in Sälen have been open for two weeks. Reports are coming in from several municipalities that mountain tourists are bad at keeping their distance.

In Värmland, the county administrative board is sounding the alarm that ski tourists are not keeping their distance and are crowding at gas stations and eateries. Mountain travelers are now being urged to bring a packed lunch for the trip, not to stop along the way, and to avoid going into gas stations.

Once there, it is important to continue to keep your distance.

”"Do not go into restaurants and heated cabins," says Carina Welin, communications officer at the county administrative board, to Nya Wermlands-Tidningen.

At the same time, ski operators are urged to work even harder with online shopping and queuing systems.

”"That's the prerequisite for being open. You can't take a vacation from the pandemic," emphasizes Carina Welin.
