GOTHENBURG: One of the shipping company Stena Line's ferries has been hit by a corona outbreak. A total of eight people have fallen ill, local media reports.
The ferry Scandinavica normally operates on the Gothenburg – Kiel route, but is currently in dry dock in Odense, Denmark for maintenance, according to SVT West.
In total, six crew members and two maintenance contractors have tested positive for COVID-19. All but one of those confirmed to be infected remain on the ship and are being isolated, but one person had managed to return home to Sweden before it was clear that he was sick.
”"No one should have needed any form of medical care. We have staff who give them food several times a day, and of course protective clothing and the like are used," says press officer Carl Mårtensson to Gothenburg Post.
All personnel were tested on Monday. A total of 45 crew members and 30 subcontractors worked on the boat while it was in dry dock. Work continues, but the number of personnel is minimized.
