This year there will be no "classic" midsummer weather with rain and cold.
Instead, midsummer looks like it will be almost insanely hot with temperatures around the 30s.
– It could be the warmest Midsummer Eve in 50 years, says Marcus Sjöstedt, meteorologist at SVT.
Those who were worried about having to lay out a spare tablecloth indoors on Midsummer can relax. This year it will be sunny, dry and hot.
– This year it looks like a high pressure will control the weather. It will be really hot and plenty of sun. All over Sweden it looks like there will be high temperatures that can reach up to the 30 degree mark, says Marcus Sjöstedt, meteorologist at SVT, to Aftonbladet.
It will be the warmest in the eastern parts of the country. Even up in Luleå it can be around 23 degrees, just right for the herring, says Sjöstedt.
– It is not impossible that it will be the warmest Midsummer in more than 50 years.
Midsummer 2016 measured the temperature at 31 degrees in Målilla and in 1970 it was measured at 34.3 degrees in Köping. But the record from 1935 will be difficult to beat when the temperature reached 35 degrees.
SMHI warns of high temperatures
SMHI has warned of high temperatures in large parts of the country during midsummer and the following weekend.
– It will be a very warm Midsummer Eve for many and we have issued a message about high temperatures. We do this when the temperatures can cause problems for risk groups, says Emma Härenstam, meteorologist at SMHI.
There will also be no gusty winds.
– It may be a little windy in the afternoon in the southern and southwestern parts of the country.
Midsummer barbecue carefully – risk of forest fire
If you are going to have a barbecue on Midsummer Eve, you also have to be very careful, especially in the southern parts because there is a risk of forest fires, says Emma Härenstam.
No precipitation is expected and it is already dry in the forest and soil.
And the hot air, it stays throughout the entire Midsummer weekend.
– It will be high summer heat throughout the country. Perhaps the hot air will weaken somewhat on Midsummer Day, but it will still be very hot. There may be some shower activity in the western parts of the country, but otherwise there will be plenty of sun, says Marcus Sjöstedt.
