The cruise ship that was held in Bordeaux, France, on Wednesday due to an outbreak of sickness has now been given permission to continue its journey, reports The New York Times.

At the same time, French authorities have determined that the outbreak is caused by norovirus, a highly contagious virus that causes winter vomiting disease.

In total, around 50 people out of the more than 1,700 on board have shown symptoms. A 92-year-old man has also died, but it is still unclear whether the death is related to the outbreak.

In a statement, the authorities state that isolation will continue to apply to sick individuals as the journey progresses. According to plan, the ship is next set to call at Spain.
