The crashed plane in Indonesia has probably been found, says Indonesia's commander-in-chief Hadi Tjahjanto.
"We are confident that we have found the fuselage of JT610," he said, according to Reuters.
The country's transport authority states that a "ping" sound was already picked up yesterday, and that divers will investigate the site today.
Although hope is basically lost of finding anyone alive after the crash, when Lion Air flight JT610 plunged into the sea, relatives are hoping to bring home the remains of the 189 people on board.
Toni Priyono Adhi's daughter was one of those on board the plane.
“I continue to pray for a miracle,” he tells Reuters, adding that logic still suggests that the plane is at the bottom of the ocean.
The plane's black boxes can provide valuable information about what really went wrong when the almost brand new plane disappeared 13 minutes after takeoff from Jakarta airport.
The only data about the aircraft known so far is the information transmitted automatically, which shows that there were problems with both speed and altitude during the short flight.
"Planes don't just fall out of the sky. I can't think of any mechanical failure other than a sudden, unexplained engine failure or a complete electrical failure. An external event is much more likely," aviation expert Philip Butterworth-Hayes told CNN, citing a flock of birds or a sudden air hole.
