The first airline merger to emerge as a result of the coronavirus pandemic is now a fact. American Airlines and JetBlue have announced they are forming a partnership to share routes and loyalty programs in an effort to survive.

Customers will be able to reserve flight tickets via both companies' websites and be able to fly one way with American Airlines and back with Jetblue or vice versa. 

Earlier in the day, American Airlines announced that it is notifying 25,000 employees that they may be laid off starting October 1.

CEO Doug Parker and Chairman of the Board Robert Isom say in a message to employees that as the number of infected people in several states in the US is now increasing, demand is decreasing again.
