Ryanair employees will be paid more to seat passengers who fly with oversized hand luggage, a move that has been criticized by the German cabin crew union UFO.
"You ruin the atmosphere before the plane has even taken off when you attack already stressed passengers," union chairman Joachim Vaquez Bürger told the DPA news agency.
The compensation for staff will be increased from the current 1.5 pounds, equivalent to just over 19 kronor, to 2.5 pounds, equivalent to just over 32 kronor, per bag. The increase will come into effect in November.
Passengers flying with Ryanair are currently allowed to bring a small bag on board at no extra cost, but may face expensive additional fees if the bag exceeds the allowed limit.
