A cruise ship carrying thousands of British tourists collided with an oil tanker off the coast of Palma, Mallorca.

The incident occurred according to The Guardian yesterday when a strong storm took hold of the ship and tore off the moorings.

The ship then slid into an oil tanker and a loud bang was heard, according to witnesses to the newspaper.

– A loud crash came from the bar and the door opened with people running in. Within seconds there were more crashes followed by chaos as people tried to escape the strong winds and rain, a passenger told The Guardian.

The passengers were allowed to stay on board the ship overnight and the damage could be examined by technicians.

A small number of people suffered minor injuries and were treated on board by the medical center.
