The current cruise restrictions are being eased from today, allowing both vaccinated and tested cruise passengers to disembark in Denmark. This gives hope for a late summer with increased activity in the Port of Copenhagen.
Although cruise tourism was part of the gradual reopening of travel activities at the end of June, the specific requirement for 100 percent complete vaccination has meant that only a few ships have visited Copenhagen this summer. Therefore, it is with great joy that Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) has received the news that cruising is now more equated with other forms of travel in relation to the general entry rules.
-It has been two really tough years for the cruise industry, including for the Danish cruise ports such as CMP. We were of course happy when they opened up for cruises in June. However, the extraordinary strict requirements imposed on cruises have prevented the industry from getting going again in Denmark. We are therefore excited to hear that the restrictions are being eased - and I would also like to thank the authorities for their great cooperation on the restart. We will now do everything we can to attract as many ships as possible, so that we can once again contribute to tourism in Copenhagen, says Barbara Scheel Agersnap, CEO of Copenhagen Malmö Port.
In addition to the general entry rules, all passengers on cruise ships are required to have a negative test before disembarking in Denmark, regardless of whether they are fully vaccinated. The test must not be more than 48 hours old for a rapid test and 72 hours old for a PCR test. However, this is a task that can be handled on board the ships, which have testing capacity.
