The number of passengers at Sweden's largest airports recovered slightly in October, thanks to the autumn holidays, according to statistics from state-owned Swedavia. But Swedavia's passengers were still significantly fewer than in October 2019 – 743,000 this year compared to 3,531,000 last year.

International travel decreased by 82 percent and domestic travel by 73 percent.

“"Increased leisure travel in connection with the autumn holidays has had a certain positive effect on traffic development in October. But overall, demand remains at historically low levels and we are seeing very tough figures for aviation worldwide," says Swedavia's CEO Jonas Abrahamsson in a press release.

The future situation does not look particularly bright for the aviation industry either.

“"The recovery has not only stopped, on the contrary, we see a tendency to decline. New restrictions likely mean that the declining demand for air travel will persist in the near future," says Jonas Abrahamsson.
