The United Airlines plane took off on Christmas Eve from Chicago and then landed in Hawaii.
A dead person was then found in the wheel well of the plane, the airline told CBS News.
The identity of the deceased is not yet known.
United Airlines states that it is cooperating with the police who are investigating how the incident could have occurred.
"The wheelhouses were only accessible from the outside of the aircraft. It is not known at this time how or when the person got there," a spokesperson said.
