Death toll rises in California

At least 42 people have been confirmed dead in the extensive fires in Northern California where the town of Paradise has almost been reduced to ashes, according to the sheriff of the surrounding Butte County.

With the new death toll, the so-called Camp Fire is the deadliest fire known in Californian history.
More than 7,100 homes and other buildings have been destroyed since the fire began on Thursday.
